Nutrient Uptake

Nutrient uptake depends on root health, available ions, pH, EC, water movement, oxygen, temperature, and media behavior. A plant can show nutrient-like symptoms even when nutrients are present.

Leaf Nutrient SymptomspH & EC Card

What to learn

  • Roots absorb nutrients from the solution around them.
  • pH influences which nutrients remain available.
  • High EC can increase osmotic stress and reduce water uptake.
  • Low oxygen, saturation, damage, or cold roots can reduce uptake.
  • Deficiency, lockout, and root stress can look similar above ground.
Rule: Do not correct nutrient symptoms without checking root-zone context.

pH & EC troubleshooting flow

Root-zone troubleshooting flow showing symptom pattern, pH, EC, feed strength, runoff trend, moisture, root health, and nutrient uptake context.

Production visual v1: troubleshooting flow for separating shortage, lockout, EC buildup, root stress, and environment.

Measurements to pair

Feed pH, runoff/slurry pH, feed EC, runoff EC, substrate moisture, irrigation timing, media type, root-zone temperature, and recent feed changes.

Grow Doc prompt

I am evaluating nutrient uptake. The symptom looks like [chlorosis/necrosis/curl/slow growth], feed pH is [x], EC is [x], runoff/slurry is [x], media moisture is [x], and root-zone context is [x]. Help separate deficiency from lockout or root stress.
