Nutrient Symptoms on Leaves

Nutrient-like symptoms must be interpreted with pH, EC, feed history, roots, watering, stage, and environment. Visuals alone are not proof.

Deficiency vs lockout visual

Comparison chart separating true nutrient deficiency from nutrient lockout, EC buildup, pH drift, root stress, and environmental uptake limits.

Use this chart before deciding whether symptoms require more nutrients or correction of root-zone access.

Field checklist

  • Separate old-growth symptoms from new-growth symptoms.
  • Record mobile-vs-immobile style pattern without forcing a diagnosis.
  • Check whether pH/EC or watering explains availability.
  • Compare feed history against plant stage and demand.

Measurements to pair

  • pH, EC/PPM, feed schedule, source water.
  • Media type, irrigation volume, runoff/dryback.
  • Temperature, RH, VPD, and root health.

Common mistakes

  • Adding supplements before measuring basics.
  • Ignoring root stress or lockout-like conditions.
  • Confusing pest damage and environmental stress for nutrients.

Grow Doc prompt

Evaluate nutrient-like leaf symptoms with old/new growth, symptom pattern, pH, EC, feed history, irrigation, media, roots, environment, pests, and recent changes. Separate true deficiency from lockout or uptake limits.
