Root Rot & Damage

Root damage can create yellowing, drooping, stalled growth, necrosis, and nutrient-like symptoms. The goal is to verify root-zone stress before making aggressive feed corrections.

Root OxygenRoot-Zone Diagnostics

What to learn

  • Damaged roots reduce water and nutrient uptake.
  • Warning signs can include poor branching, dark/slimy roots, off smell, slow recovery, and persistent wilt.
  • Root stress can follow saturation, heat, cold, pests, pathogens, compaction, or salt buildup.
  • Leaf symptoms alone cannot confirm root rot.
  • Verify progression and environment before acting.
Rule: treat roots as a possible cause when leaf issues do not match feed changes.

Visual reference slot

High-quality visual needed:

Healthy root vs damaged root comparison plate showing color, branching, tip quality, texture, and media condition.

Measurements to pair

Substrate moisture, root-zone temperature, smell, root color, media drainage, pH, EC, irrigation frequency, oxygen/aeration notes, and symptom progression.

Grow Doc prompt

I am evaluating root damage. Roots appear [color/texture/smell], media condition is [wet/compacted/salty], symptoms are [x], and readings are [pH, EC, moisture, temperature]. Help determine whether root damage is likely and what to verify next.
