THC Atlas Diagnostic Card

Root-Zone Problem Card

Use this card when leaf symptoms may be caused by the hidden root zone: saturation, low oxygen, compaction, salt buildup, root damage, media behavior, or irrigation mismatch.

Field checklist

  • Check moisture pattern before assuming deficiency.
  • Look for slow drainage, compaction, channeling, or perched water behavior.
  • Review root-zone oxygen risk from saturation or dense media.
  • Compare symptoms against recent irrigation, transplant, feed, and environment changes.
  • Inspect roots when appropriate for color, smell, texture, and branching.
Rule: root-zone issues often create nutrient-looking leaf symptoms.

Oxygen & saturation check

Root-zone comparison showing balanced oxygenated media, saturated low-oxygen media, compacted media, and too-dry conditions with likely leaf and root responses.

Use this visual to separate balanced moisture, saturation, compaction, and drought stress.
