Transpiration

Transpiration moves water from roots through xylem and out of leaves as vapor. It links root-zone moisture, VPD, cooling, and nutrient movement.

Visual reference slot

Needed asset: Transpiration Root-to-Leaf Flow showing roots, xylem, leaf vapor exit, VPD pull, and stress boundaries.

Field checklist

  • Check droop, curl, edge stress, and canopy position.
  • Compare before watering, after watering, and peak light period.
  • Inspect whether roots/media can supply the leaf demand.

Measurements to pair

  • Substrate moisture, irrigation volume, dryback.
  • VPD, temperature, RH, airflow.
  • EC/pH and leaf temperature if available.

Common mistakes

  • Calling every droop overwatering.
  • Ignoring high VPD water demand.
  • Changing feed when the root zone is the limiting factor.

Grow Doc prompt

Evaluate transpiration balance: root-zone moisture, VPD, PPFD, airflow, leaf posture, irrigation timing, dryback, EC/pH, and symptom progression.
