Necrosis

Necrosis is dead plant tissue. Brown tips, burnt margins, spots, and lesions show damage, but not one guaranteed cause.

Visual reference slot

Needed asset: Necrosis Evaluation Card comparing tip burn, margin burn, spotting, lesions, halos, dry tissue, and stopped vs spreading damage.

Field checklist

  • Identify damage type: tip, edge, spot, blotch, lesion, or whole leaflet.
  • Record whether tissue is dry/crispy, soft, wet, or expanding.
  • Compare old damage against new growth before reacting.

Measurements to pair

  • pH, EC, runoff/root-zone strength when available.
  • VPD, light intensity, temperature, irrigation history.
  • Pest/pathogen inspection and foliar spray history.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming all burnt tips mean overfeeding.
  • Trying to fix dead tissue instead of tracking new growth.
  • Missing spray burn, heat, root stress, or pests.

Grow Doc prompt

Classify necrosis pattern, confirm whether it is spreading, compare old vs new growth, then check EC, pH, VPD, light, water status, pests, and recent sprays.
