Environmental Leaf Stress Checklist

Use this checklist when leaf symptoms may be tied to light, heat, humidity, airflow, VPD, or sudden environmental changes. Many issues that look nutritional begin with canopy conditions.

Canopy environmental stress map

Final artwork should show upper-canopy light/heat stress, dense-canopy humidity risk, lower-canopy shading, airflow dead zones, and root-zone demand connections.

Field checklist

  • Is damage concentrated in the upper canopy, lower canopy, or dense interior?
  • Check PPFD/light distance before changing nutrients.
  • Measure temperature, RH, and VPD at canopy level, not only room level.
  • Check airflow across the leaf surface and through dense areas.
  • Record recent equipment, irrigation, or environment changes.
Rule: environment can create symptoms that mimic nutrient problems.

Grow Doc prompt

I am using the Environmental Leaf Stress Checklist. Symptoms are strongest in the [upper/lower/interior] canopy. Current PPFD is [x], temperature is [x], RH is [x], VPD is [x], airflow notes are [x], and recent environmental changes were [x]. Help identify likely environmental stress factors and what to fix first.
